Automating Product Management with ChatGPT and Bard

The robots are coming! But are they going to do a good job?

I’ve been fiddling with ChatGPT 4 for a few days, and just recently got access to Google Bard. I recently participated in a panel discussion with Airfocus about How AI Is Transforming the Way PMs Work and recently recorded a podcast episode with ChatGPT 4 as my guest. Overall, I’m really curious to see what this can and can’t do to help product managers and product leaders in their day-to-day jobs.

So I thought I’d try a little experiment. A while ago, on Twitter, I asked a “PM pop quiz” question, a difficult product management scenario with no right answer, to see what people would say. Here’s the question:

Ok, #prodmgmt pop quiz! You’ve just been promoted to product leader. The other 2 PMs wanted the job & have both quit. The company is trying to raise funds & your sales cycle is longer than your runway. There are initiatives in flight with weak evidence to support them. What next?

This is, of course, a nightmare scenario for any ambitious product leader aiming to do a good job. But what’s a product leader to do? Let’s see what the awesome power of AI would do.

ChatGPT 3.5

This is the ChatGPT that non-paid users are stuck with. Let’s see what it has to say.
